Dear Kids – The Trouble With Strangers

Dear Kids,

When you grow up and have kids of your own, you will notice the following phenomenon. Complete strangers will come up to you and coo over your baby/toddler. “What beautiful eyes!” they will remark. Then, from some biological tic built in to all complete strangers, they will commence to gaze in to your eyes for an inappropriate amount of time, afterward saying, “Just like Mommy’s!” No amount of dissuasion can stop this process. “I have blue eyes – trust me”, “We all have blue eyes”, “My eyes are actually toxic, it’s for your own safety that I look away”, “I had my eyes removed”. So, when you are parents, just accept this little process, and when you see a kid with beautiful eyes, just say so and leave it at that.
