Fun with Kids – Goldfish Krispie Treats, or How Mimi Tried to Kill Us All

Goldfish Krispie Treats

Mimi was babysitting the kids the other day and decided to make Rice Krispie Treats with Kitten – fun! She and Kitten melted the butter, melted the marshmallows, reached for the Rice Krispies…and realized that we didn’t have any. What we did have was lots of goldfish. Soooo…this happened:

Behold: the Goldfish Krispie Treat

They were…interesting. Mimi was going for a salty-sweet goodness. Perhaps it would have gone better if the goldfish had not been so very, very stale. I any case, it is not a recipe that is going to be passed down for generations. Even Kitten – who was very excited by the chocolate chips sprinkled on the top – decided she didn’t want to finish her piece.

Ah well…when you’ve got a pot of melted marshmallows you’ve got to put something in there, right? Anybody know of another good additive to marshmallow goop besides Rice Krispies?

  1. I was hoping for a success story here. You know, savory + sweet goodness like bacon ice cream. Guess not!

    • Ya, it was not great. I think the major downfall was the complete and utter staleness of the goldfish. They might have had a fighting chance otherwise.
