How to Rock a Wedding in 4 Easy Steps: Advice From a 5 yr-old Pro

Dear All 5 year-old Wedding Attendees,

How to rock a wedding in 4 easy steps (Advice from Buddy – A Pro):

1. Stick your face in the centerpieces. If you’re lucky they will have candy in them. Jordan almonds, personalized M&Ms, little heart confections…chances are, there is candy in there; purple, sticky rockcandy sticks in the case of our sample wedding. When you reappear with sticky purple all over your cheeks, deny everything! “What?? Uh…I think it’s boogers.”

Always check the centerpieces! See? Candy!

2. Touch the cake. I mean, how could you not?? It’s just sitting there on that table in the corner at face-height, looking delicious. I dare you not to touch it. When you are caught with your icing-covered finger(s) in your mouth, deny everything! “I don’t remember anything! It wasn’t me! It was the cake’s fault!”

It's just you and me...

3. Make an impression. I mean a burned-in-to-their-retinas kind of impression. My go-to is inviting (forcing?) wedding guests to watch me pee – I’m really, really good at it. Mom likes to close the bathroom door on me, but if she’s talking on the other side of the door, I gotta know what’s going on right? So, I like to open the door again while I do my thing. Did I maybe pee a little outside of the bowl to perform that door-opening maneuver? Maybe. Did my mom have to clean half the bathroom after I was done? Probably. Did the mother-of-the-bride get a ticket to the Buddy Show? Definitely. And really, isn’t that what counts?

4. Dance, baby, dance! Remember that rock candy? Ya, get some of that. Hop yourself up on all the un-guarded sugar you can find. This is your time to shine! Is that dance floor wet? One word: Slip-n-slide. Outdoor wedding? I’m sure you can find some mud somewhere. Really challenge yourself, here. Remember, your parents are trying to socialize and appear normal, so capitalize on their distraction.

I'm going for formal sanitation worker...kind of shabby chic.

This is MY dance floor!

That should make just about any wedding experience pretty epic. Remember, Don’t let the shenanigans come to you – you go find the shenanigans!

More rock candy!!

Enjoy!

Dear Kitten – Husband Jackpot

Dear Kitten,

Nearly two years ago, when you were almost 3, you announced that you were going to marry a little boy in your class named ‘G’. The next time I was in your classroom I asked your teacher to point out G to me. Kitten, girl, you have good taste; that boy is cuuuuuute! Dimples and everything. Good choice.

For a year and a half you talked about how you two were getting married until one day – quite unceremoniously – you announced that the wedding was off. I was shocked! And, I’ll admit, a little sad. It had been so cute.

For the better part of 6 months there has been no mention of marriage, weddings, or even G. I assumed the phase had passed.

Then, just this week I ran in to G’s mom at school. She said, “G told me that he and Kitten are getting married, but only when they grow up. He told me, ‘Mom, she doesn’t even need to learn how to cook. I’ll cook for her.'”

Winner! You, dear Kitten, have just hit the husband jackpot. Dimples AND he cooks? Don’t let that one get away 😉

"Yes to the dress!" ...and those shoes are divine.

All ready for the big day! Just need to wait 20 years or so…

Dear Kids – “At Last”

Dear Kids,

Yesterday one of my dearest friends got married and I had the honor of being in the wedding party. During the reception they played “At Last” by Etta James, which was the first song your Daddy and I danced to at our wedding. It put me in mind of when I told your Daddy what song I wanted to chose for our first dance.

Daddy: Why “At Last”? We haven’t been dating forever, we’re not old, you didn’t have to wait at all really. I don’t get it.
Me: It’s short.
Daddy: It’s a great song.

Our first dance.

Our first dance.

Dear Kids – Announcement: I’ve Found the Best Bubbles Ever!

Dear Kids,

I have found the best bubbles ever! And they are….Wedding Bubbles! Possibly they are the best because who’s going to mess with a bride, right? These bubbles work in any container, from the long bubble sticks to a standard non-spill cup to the bubble machine. They produce lots of bubbles and the bubbles last. We set the bubble machine going in the back yard and Daddy saw them when he was jogging up to the house from the neighbors front yard – pretty cool. They are so thick they make a ‘snap’ sound when they pop. I know this makes me a bubble geek, but I just love these bubbles!

(This is the refill jug since we use a LOT of bubbles. The small containers
of wedding bubbles sold in trays also work really well.)

Dear Kitten – The Wedding is Off!

Dear Kitten,

You recently announced that you and your friends are not going to get married anymore. Oh no! When asked why not you replied, “I don’t have a dress!” Well that makes sense…
